In the spirit of the 1978 Liberty Fund symposium on “Theory and Method in the Social Sciences”—which engaged the work of Hayek, Mises, Schutz, Watkins, Nisbet, and Werkmeister—our discussions examined the ontological and epistemological foundations of economic thought, revisited and developed key methodological issues, and identified recent advances in theory and method, with an eye to their application in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
The Madrid and US events were co-organized with the Stephenson Institute for Classical Liberalism at Wabash College, USA, and Universidad Francisco Marroquin, Guatemala.
In this series, the American Institute for Economic Research co-hosted a colloquium to explore conceptual and methodological advances in PPE—in the spirit of the 1978 Liberty Fund symposium, “Theory and Method in the Social Sciences,” which engaged the work of Hayek, Mises, Schutz, Watkins, Nisbet, and Werkmeister.
