Economics School for the Best
2008-11-16
On November 10–16, LFMI invited all those willing to analyse more thoroughly the causes and effects of economic policies to attend an „Economics School for the Best“. During the maiden event, lectures were delivered by well-known Lithuanian analysts and internationally acknowledged lecturers who specialize in the Austrian economics.
The course leaders invited senior students of economics or other social and humanitarian sciences, as well as graduate professionals. Throughout the 7 days of the economics school, lectures were delivered by Dr. Ramūnas Vilpišauskas, hab. dr. Algirdas Degutis, Fr. Dr. Kęstutis Kėvalas, Prof. Hans Hermann Hoppe, dr. Remigijus Šimašius, Rūta Vainienė, Professor Josef Sima.
On the last day of the economics course, the students were asked to fill out „A course evaluation based on acquired knowledge, generated interest and novelty“ (on a scale graded 1 to 10, where 10 means „excellent“). Based on acquired knowledge, the average evaluation was 8.7, generated interest – 9.3, and novelty – 9.2.
A few of the participants‘ opinions:
▪ „The information was useful and reflected the current situation.“
▪ „The courses analysed all the aspects. The information is deep, it allows one understand the forces in the market.“
▪ „In a way, I saved some time.“
▪ „Some of the lectures overlapped with the lectures I have already had at the university.“
▪ „Clear and thorough lectures, the lecturers connected with the audience.“
▪ „The strengths of the lectures – untraditional delivery of the information, unexpected analogies, lively lecturing, a close contact with the audience.“
▪ „The courses presented new and untraditional viewpoints of economics and the market.“
▪ „The studies are both new and relevant to my further scientific work.“
▪ „Very new, opposite views to what we were taught at the university.“
▪ „It was very useful, because we do not hear such views at the University of Management and Economics.“
