Exchange of Ideas: Our Competitiveness Is in Our Own Hands

In November 2024, Vilnius hosted the conference “Business 2025. Lithuania – Among the 10 Most Competitive Countries in the World,” bringing together business leaders, executives, and policymakers to discuss Lithuania’s economic future and global positioning.

The event also featured the annual recognition of the CEO who created the most value for employees, shareholders, and society, highlighting the importance of leadership in driving competitiveness.

One of the central discussions, “Exchange of Ideas. Our Competitiveness Is in Our Own Hands. Concrete Steps to Increase It,” focused on practical pathways to strengthen Lithuania’s competitiveness.

A notable contribution came from Gintautas Paluckas, who emphasized the importance of long-term vision, cooperation between business and government, and consistent policy direction.

The discussion echoed a broader sentiment expressed at the conference: Lithuania’s competitiveness will be shaped not only by external markets, but by its ability to attract talent, ideas, and investment.

Participants highlighted several priorities for strengthening competitiveness:

  • fostering collaboration between public institutions and business
  • creating a stable and predictable regulatory environment
  • investing in talent, innovation, and productivity
  • focusing on long-term value creation rather than short-term gains

As global competition intensifies, Lithuania’s path toward becoming one of the world’s most competitive economies depends on deliberate choices and shared responsibility. The session reinforced a clear message: competitiveness is not a given – it is built through ideas, leadership, and concrete action.
