The Prime Minister has warned people to borrow responsibly and encouraged the Bank of Lithuania to control the situation. However, the government’s own policy of is different. The national debt is constantly growing. New loans are taken to cover old debts, interest and to finance new spending. This reminds of a debt pyramid-scheme. In the same time the Government is rejoicing for being able to borrow almost 4 billion Litas (1.16 billion Euros). Ruta Vainiene, President of LFMI, commented the issue in the daily Lietuvos žinios.
