The Lithuanian Free Market Institute has examined draft amendments to the Law on Control of Tobacco Tobacco Products and Related Products and submitted its comments and proposals to legislative authorities. Among other things, the draft law stipulates the introduction of plain packaging for tobacco products, a restriction on public display of tobacco products, and bans on smoking in specific areas, e.g. shared balconies, catering establishments, and long-distance trains. In LFMI’s view, the proposed anti-smoking policies are disproportionate and ineffective; therefore, they should not be implemented.
