The Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI) has examined the draft National Energy Independence Strategy “Energy for Competitive Lithuania” and submitted its comments and proposals to relevant authorities. In its position paper, LFMI adheres to the drafters of the strategy in that energy prices in Lithuania should not be higher than in its neighbours and the transition towards green energy would not have negative impact on the state, industry and individual households. In LFMI’s view, it is also commendable that the project does not imply additional financial burden on consumers Nevertheless, LFMI noted that the strategy should explicitly refer to the principle of competition when it comes to the development of electricity, natural gas and heating sectors as well as promote private investment in the energy sector which is currently dominated by publicly owned enterprises.
