The Lithuanian Free Market Institute (LFMI), in cooperation with 4liberty.eu, has released a position paper on the EC’s proposal for digital levy, in response to open consultation on A Fair & Competitive Digital Economy – Digital Levy.
We argue that any of the suggested taxation measures would negatively affect the development of the digital sector and economy at large. They would disincentivize investments and innovations, resulting in negative effects on employment, productivity, and income growth. Digital taxation will undermine EU competitiveness and recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
